My Rhyming poem

We are two little islands

in the southern hemisphere

It's a really beautiful place

And I'm happy to be here

Cape rianga is at the top with a never ending view

ANd bluff is at the bottom, stuart island is too

In the middle is cook strait

Where the islands almost meet and say kiora mate!

This is a perfect place

To come for a holiday

With amazing scenery

You'll forever want to stay

New zealand
Aoteroa
Land of the long white cloud
But when you come here please accept the parties are fairly loud!

My Haiku Poems

Birds circle above
One swoops down into the sea
And flys off to eat

The lighthouse keeper
Looks down at the sea below
And sighs at nothing

Helicopter Suprise

All was dark and quiet they had told us we must stay hidden in our cellars with some essentials and one candle which must be kept well away from any windows. They knew Germany was coming. They knew they would launch a surprise attack so they are launching their own. The news had spread around fairly quickly and so had the lies. There were five large objects on the top of one of cliffs edging the beach, they were believed to be tanks, cannons, or small jets, but I, Mary-Jane, knew that on the top of that cliff were five new inventions made by Bobbee. That's his real name but everyone just calls him Bob. The five inventions were called helicopters. They had large propellers on top and a long tail bit behind it; but anyway the plan was a flame would be lit in twenty places around the northern area( this where I am at this time).Suddenly a light was light outside. It was coming from the town square, my dad was there he had told me the night before so that I was sure I knew where my dad was.

It all happened so fast, as soon as the light was lit all the candles in every house were blown out and the covers on the helicopters were pulled off. Some men climbed into the helicopters, to be precise there were five in each-two with grenades one on coordinates plus a pilot and co-pilot.
The five helicopters took off and flew to their certain positions .

Then I heard it, the faint sound of planes, they were coming closer every second then came the first explosion. It was a grenade thrown by one of the men in the helicopters , I saw the explosion it blew off one of the attacking planes wings . After that there were alot more explosions which caused my little sister to start crying then I noticed a strong glow coming from the town square where my dad had lit the signal light.
I couldn't bear it any longer I just had to know my dad was OK. So when my mum was distracted I ran, I ran upstairs and tryed to get out the door with no success so I took a few steps back and ran as fast I could through the glass window beside the door.Outside wads hot and stuffy but that didn’t stop me from finding my dad. I ran towards the town square where I thought my dad would be, my arm was bleeding, probably from the glass window. When I got there it was a terrible scene. there was a destroyed helicopter which was on fire but the light wasn’t bright enough for me to see my dad. So I ran over to the helicopter and found the pilot dead but his helmet was still intact so I put it on and tipped the night vision screen down. The night Vision screen also invented by Bob.when I found my dad he was burnt and lying on the ground very still. I picked up his radio turned it onto the aid channel and requested an urgent ambulance. It was then I fainted. Next thing I knew I was in hospital. After that I asked lots of questions and the nurse said I had to stay in the hospital for a month. “Is my dad ok” I asked. “Well he’s a strong fighter but...”. The nurse had a sad expression while talking about my dad. “You mean he’s dead” I whispered.”Well yes. I’m sorry”.

The end.

Home baking recipe #3

Here is my recipe number three and I reckon it’s my best yet because the recipe is for...Sherbet!!!This sherbet is great for sour loving taste buds, but I warn you if your your taste buds just can’t take sour stuff then do not make this recipe to eat!!!

Sherbet:

1 cup of icing sugar
1 teaspoon of baking powder
1 teaspoon of citric acid
1 teaspoon of tartaric acid
2 table spoons of raro or something like it
Method:
Put the ingredients in a bowl and mix them together.
DONE!!!
Also if you want to take it to the extreme try adding more tiny amounts of tartaric or citric acid to the sherbet!

Have fun! :)

Camp Motutapu 2010

Monday, 3rd May, 2010. All packed and waiting for the ferry to arrive. After around 10 minutes the ferry arrived at half moon bay where we were waiting. We all climbed onto the ferry and sat down. The ferry had to drop us of at Rangitoto Island because there were no wharfs nearer to the camp! So of course we had to walk all the way to camp!

We stopped to have lunch/morning tea in a small field beside a small mangrove forest which wasn’t very long because we had alot more walking to do still! When we got there we got to sit down (hooray!) and then we got to grab our bags that had gotten driven to the camp and find a bed in our dorms, I got a bed about 6 beds away from the door.

We got to enjoy 2 activities that day, the first was orienteering which was hard because we didn’t really know our way around the camp! After that we did sailing which I didn’t participate in so I just went round on the IRB with JR and watched the other people in the sailing boats.

On Tuesday we did: raftbuilding, highropes, confidence course, and kyayking. Raft building was fun but the other team cheated by coping our idea and getting lots of help from their parent and the instructor. In the end our raft fell apart and the other groups raft stayed together and me and Connor were sitting on a buoy and it rolled backwards so we tipped of it and fell in to the freezing cold water! At the high ropes lots of people conquered their fears and did the high ropes with ease and Tabetha even started out afraid of heights and ended out liking heights! I particularly liked the height of the high ropes! As another activity that day we did the Confidence Course which was OK and also sort of fun as we had to use alot of team work which frustrated a few people but the best thing was probably when we had to lift Andrew P and Claudia through a hole in a net a meter above the ground! The other activity we did that day was kayaking. I don’t particularly like kayaking because my arms get really sore!!! But I ended up having to do kayaking any way but when we were just starting to play a game of kayak soccer a rash that had appeared 5 minutes before started stinging really badly I had to go with one of the parents on the beach to find one of the medics. When we found the medics he put some cream on the rash and I didn’t end up doing kayaking.

On Wednesday we did another four activities they were: Archery, survivor, the gunwalk and Rock climbing. First I’ll talk about archery, well we all when to the archery area with troll/Craig and the first group of four stepped up to have their turn and I was in that group of four and I had done archery before so I knew what I was doing and when I took my first shot it flew through the air and out of nowhere I had shot a bulls eye!!!(That was probably my highlight of camp)Then onto the gunwalk, an my it was a walk .The gunwalk was simply a walk through cow poo and cows and grass to some old ruins of the guns that used to sit on the hills of Motutapu island and shoot a long distance to any enemy ships. And we needed our torches because we went underground to see where the ammunition was stored and where the communication was held and when we went into an ammunition room we saw a giant white spider that had a glowing white body with glowing points along its legs! One of the other activities we did was rock climbing which really hurt my arms and legs and I got to the top of all three walls that we were allowed on! And lucky last out of all of our activities was survivor! This activity was probably my favourite activity at camp because what the whole idea of survivor was to use team work to help your team through the challenging course. But the best thing about this activity was falling in the mud and the muddy water which came above my waist at some parts!!! And we got to walk back through a swap like creek!

Well that was all our activities but the extra add on were: The night activities, the game of murderer, and the talent show. First I’ll tell you about the game of murderer, what happened is the parents and the teachers got murdered and we had to guess who the two murderers were and in the end it was a parent and Miss Hulet the game of murder was OK because there was so much fuss about a parent pretending to die! I’ll tell you now what the night activities were like. First we did Spotlight and me and Rachel (a friend from primary) hid together and we had the best hiding spots! Next we did the Burma trail and it was quite a bit scary! Also we kept slipping on some of the steep slopes but it was lucky that we were holding a rope and the person in front of us! And lucky last we did the night activities which were OK but the problem was some of them were a bit boring so we purposely got out so we could play on the mattresses in the little rock climbing area. And the talent show. The talent show was OK and some of the acts included parents and lots of the acts included comedy.

After all the excitement at camp we packed our bags had a mad morning tea and headed off for the ferry wharf. We stopped once at the same place as on the way there and had some rolls which weren’t very nice. And some fruit which I chose an orange and it wouldn’t peel properly. When we reached the wharf the ferry was there waiting for us and we all hopped on board and sat down while we headed home. When the ferry docked we grabbed our bags and went to find our parent and go home!!!

Home baking recipe#2

Hi again, this time an even simpler recipe than the last one!!! Today's recipe is coloured meringues.
P.S.sorry there are no photos there will be some up in the weekend hopefully!

Ingredients:

2 egg whites
1/2 cup sugar
food colouring (any color you like)

Beat egg whites until they are stiff but not dry. Add half the amount of sugar and beat well. Repeat with the remaining sugar and a small amount of food colouring. Now beat the mixture until it is thick and glossy. Pipe or spoon small amounts of the meringue mixture onto a greased oven tray. Bake at 120 degrees for 1-1 1/2 hours or until the meringues are dry but not brown. Then leave them to cool down on a baking rack for a while...
When ready to serve I suggest either sandwiching two together with whipped cream or they would go really nice with chocolate dipped strawberries or a fruit of your choice.
MAKES 12

If you have any other serving suggestions or would like to tell me how they went just leave a comment for me and I would much appreciate it.

These are also a great birthday treat for all ages so try colourful meringues at your party or maybe take them to another persons party so everyone can enjoy

Hey Guys, here is my first recipe up on my blog sorry there's no photos but I'll try put photos on the other ones! Please try this at home and tell me how it went and if you found anything to put it with as well as my ideas at the bottom of the page.
Today's recipe: Cheesy Chicken Parsley Bites

Ingredients:

6 slices of bread (crusts removed)
2 tablespoons of parsley (chopped)
1/2 cup finely grated cheese
3 tablespoons melted butter
3 eggs beaten
3 skinless chicken breasts (cut into bite sized pieces)

First process the bread into bread crumbs, then put the crumbs into a shallow dish and mix in the parsley and grated cheese. In another deeper dish put in the three eggs. And then, a few at a time, dip the chicken pieces into the eggs and then roll the eggy chicken in the bread crumbs making sure that you get a good amount of bread crumbs on the piece of chicken then place the chicken pieces on a oven tray, when they are all on put them in the oven on 180 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until golden and crispy on top.

Recently in class we have done three reports here's my one on cellphones...

Report: Cellphones

The first cellphone that was made in 1973 was a dull version of the modern cellphone.

Now cellphones are better, brighter, and bolder.

From 1973 through to 2010 the cellphone has improved in these areas: colour, sound, communication , entertainment, and information.

If you have a look on a modern everyday cellphone you will find it has a menu bar. On the menu bar it has the option settings. In settings you can programme your phone to do many different things like you can change your ringtone volume, your screen, your clock size etc. The settings are there to help you in different ways so that your phone is set almost just the way you want or need it.

The cellphone is a pocket size phone used for three main reasons: communication, information and entertainment. They are a convenient way to take communication with you where ever you go in a pocket sized object and I bet that is just what people thought when they invented the cellphone!!!

This is my report ,for our topic Out of our world, on Breast Cancer.

Report: Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer is found in women and men and it is more likely for someone to get breast cancer the older they are.

One of the questions I asked myself about this topic is what is happening inside your body when you have breast cancer? I looked up this question and found that breast cancer is when an abnormal cell is made in the body and it multiplies into a group of bad cells and then creates a tumor in the body causing the sickness.

A common question a lady might ask their nurse is: How do I prevent breast cancer? I wanted to find the answers to this question so I did. According to my research these things will help prevent breast cancer: Vitamin D, exercise, annual mammograms, limited alcohol intakes, and a healthy diet.

So if you’re 45 or over and can’t remember when you had your last mammogram, pick up the phone and book one! Remember find it early and you won’t regret it!
